Description

This engraving brings together eight distinct landscapes created by Melton Prior based on his observations along the Bosphorus. This defensive line, connecting the Ottoman capital to the Black Sea, reflects the Bosphorus's geopolitical significance both militarily and visually. Each small scene in the engraving represents a link within the 19th-century Ottoman fortification system: former Genoese fortresses, Ottoman forts, lighthouses, and Bosphorus villages are presented in a unified manner.
