Doğubayazıt şehrinin 7 km. güneydoğusunda Belleburç denilen bir konumda, sarp bir kayalık üzerinde kurulmuştur. Günümüzde harabe bir durumda bulunan kalenin ilk olarak ne zaman ve kimler tarafından yapıldığı kesin
olarak bilinmemektedir. Ancak kaledeki Urartu mezarları ve antik çağlara ait kalıntılar, buranın antik bir yerleşme olduğu izlenimini vermektedir. Bayazıt şehrinin coğrafi konumu nedeniyle, kale tarih boyunca önemli görevler üstlenmiştir. 1374 yılında Doğubayazıt Kalesi'ni restore ettiren Sultan Bayezid'in ölümünden sonra halk onun anısına şehrin adını değiştirerek Daryunk yerine ilk defa Bayezıd adını vermiştir. Eski kalenin adı da, Sultan Bayezıd'a ithafen Bayezıd Kalesi olarak değişmiştir. (http://www.hamur.gov.tr/dogubeyazit-kalesi)

Dogubayazit Castle was built on a steep rock at a location called Belleburc, 7 km southeast of Dogubayazit city. Today, the Castle is in a state of ruin. It is not known exactly when and by whom the castle was first built. However, the Urartian tombs and ancient ruins in the castle give the impression that this place is an ancient settlement. Due to the geographical location of the city of Bayazit, the castle has undertaken important tasks throughout history. After the death of Sultan Bayezid, who restored Dogubayazit Castle in 1374, the people changed the name of the city to Daryunk for the first time in his memory.
