Description

Two boats, headed by Fleuriot de Langle, the commander of the Astrolabe, were sent into Fagasa Bay to obtain fresh water and were surrounded by native canoes looking to trade fruit in exchange for glass beads and cloth. The natives became restless and started to attack the two boats, resulting in the death of De Langle, 11 crews and 39 Samoans.
