The creek is known as Barbisos during the Byzantine period, then Europe's fresh water and today as Kağıthane Creek. It is one of the two streams that flow into the Golden Horn. The famous Sadabat Mansion of the Tulip Period was once on the bank of the stream. It was one of the most important recreation area in the Tulip Period.
