Description

The highest commander of the Janissary Corps is the Janissary Agha. The Janissary Agha, who comes after the Grand Vizier and is a member of the Imperial Council, is responsible for the security of Istanbul and the protection of the palace. Kazasker or kadıasker are judges who give decisions according to the provisions of sharia in the Ottoman Empire (sharia cases). They had duties such as appointing judges, lecturers and religious officials, overturning or changing the decisions of the judges and creating new decisions. Kazaskers were natural members of the Imperial Council. The kazasker who was in charge of the Rumelian judges was called the Rumelian kazasker, and the one in charge of the Anatolian judges was called the Anatolian kazasker.
