Description

The historical walls of Istanbul started to be built in 5.century during the Eastern Roman Empire. It has been overhauled four times through destructions and reconstructions. The height of the Istanbul Walls is 15 meters, the thickness is 5 meters, and the total length of the walls is 20.5 kilometers. historical walls consists of 3 parts, land walls, outer wall and inner wall. While there are 300 towers and 50 gates of the Istanbul Walls, some of them were destroyed during the conquest, some were destroyed due to earthquakes and some gates were closed and built during the Ottoman Empire.
