Description

The Ancient City of Ani is located in the southeast of the city of Kars and on the banks of the Arpaçay river. In the Ancient City of Ani, which has been home to many civilizations throughout history, there are ruins belonging to Pagratuni, Armenians, Byzantines, Seljuks, Georgians and Ottomans. Between 61 and 1045, it became the capital of Armenian rulers from the Pakraduni Dynasty. It became the center of the Armenian patriarchate in 992.
