The Sultanahmet Mosque was built by Sultan Ahmet I in 1616 by architect Sedefkar Mehmet Aga across from Hagia Sophia. Sultanahmet Mosque is called the Blue Mosque by foreigners because of the blue color in the mosque. It is a group of land walls and towers that surround Istanbul from the southwest, also known as the Seven Tower Dungeons. Four of these towers were built by the Byzantine Emperors, and three of them by the Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror. Now, it is an open air museum. Maiden's Tower was built in 300's B.C on a small island in Salacak coast in Üsküdar, Istanbul. Maiden's tower has been used for various purposes such as lantern, watchtower, hospital, tax collection center, radio station, entertainment venue. Today, it serves as a restaurant. There are many legends about the tower.
