The Rumeli Fortress (Bogazkesen Fortress) is located in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul and opposite the Anatolian Fortress on the Anatolian side. It was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1452 at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus in order to prevent attacks from the north of the Bosphorus before the conquest of Istanbul.
