Description

Dogubayazit Castle was built on a steep rock at a location called Belleburc, 7 km southeast of Dogubayazit city. Today, the Castle is in a state of ruin. It is not known exactly when and by whom the castle was first built. However, the Urartian tombs and ancient ruins in the castle give the impression that this place is an ancient settlement. Due to the geographical location of the city of Bayazit, the castle has undertaken important tasks throughout history. After the death of Sultan Bayezid, who restored Dogubayazit Castle in 1374, the people changed the name of the city to Daryunk for the first time in his memory. The name of the old castle was changed to Bayezid Castle after Sultan Bayezid. (http://www.hamur.gov.tr/dogubeyazit-kalesi)
