The history of Erzurum Castle goes back approximately 2,500 years, to the Urartians who dominated the region. The first version of the inner castle, which survives today, was built by the Byzantine Emperor Theodosius in 415. At the time of its construction, the castle consists of the Inner Fortress, which includes the highest part of the city and the guard soldiers who ensure the safety of the city, and the Outer Castle, which includes the streets, streets and neighborhoods where the people reside. The outer fortress walls, which preserved their importance until the middle of the 19.century with the extensions during the Ottoman period, were completely destroyed in the 20.century.
