Mahmudiye Bridge was built by Sultan Mahmut II, using all wooden materials, between Unkapanı and Azapkapı in 1836. It was named as "Hayratiye Bridge" by the public since no toll was required. The bridge is 400 meters long and 10 meters wide. It was built in a way that it can be opened and closed for the passage of ships. It was demolished in 1912 for the construction of a new bridge.
