Description

Cemberlitas Column (Burnt Pillar or Constantine Column) is located in Istanbul, Cemberlitas district. The 57 meter long column was erected by Emperor Constantine I in 330. It was called Cemberlitas column because of the iron circles wrapped around it in order to prevent it from collapsing during the time of Sultan Mustafa II. Atik Ali Paşa Mosque (Sedefçiler Mosque) built in 1496 is depicted on the back of the engraving.
