Description

The Grand Bazaar is located between Nuruosmaniye, Mercan and Beyazıt districts in Istanbul. The Grand Bazaar is the largest shopping center in the world with its 45000 square meter closed area, 64 streets, two covered bazaars, 16 inns, 22 gates, approximately 3600 shops and 20.000 employees. One of the two covered bazaars of the Grand Bazaar, the Inner Bedesten (Cevahir Bedesten) is a Byzantine building and measures 48x36 meters. After the conquest of Istanbul, the New Bedesten (Sandal Bedesten) was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1461. The actual big bazaar was built by Kanuni Sultan Suleyman as wood. Although the bazaar has been exposed to disasters such as fires and earthquakes, it has grown day by day
