Description

This Engraving is about Lord Byron's poem The Bride of Abydos. The poem is about the tragic fate of Gaffir's daughter Zuleika and her lover, the pirate Selim. The Event mentioned in the poem happens in the Dardanelles in Turkey. Zuleika escapes from the harem tower with the pirate Selim, whom she falls in love with, to avoid the marriage that her father arranged. However, Pasha Gaffir's men capture Zuleika and Selim and kill Selimi. The rescued Zuleika later dies of grief.
