Thyateira Ancient city is located in the area called Tepe Cemetery in Manisa Akhisar district center. First city in Thyateira was founded by Macedonians 3rd century BC. The ancient city of Thyateira was an important center in Lydia, Pergamon Kingdom, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Periods. The city is one of the first seven churches of Christianity founded by St. Paul in Western Anatolia. According to the New Testament in the second part of the Bible, the Prophet Jesus appears to Saint (Apostle) John and gives "messages" to be delivered to the seven churches. Messages sent to these seven churches themselves, and are regarded as the first Christian churches in Turkey are located. M.S. Established by Saint (from Tarsus) Paul during the Roman Empire in 53-56, these churches are named after the Roman period: 1.Ephesus (Ephesos) (Selçuk) 2.İzmir (Smyrna) 3.Bergama (Pergamon) 4.Salihli ( Sardes) 5.Alaşehir (Philadelphia) 6.Denizli (Laodikeia) 7.Akhisar (Thyateira). One of these seven churches mentioned in the Bible and founded by St. Paul is located in the Ancient City of Thyateira. However, these seven churches mentioned in the Bible should not be considered as only church buildings. These places are the places where the first 7 congregations in Anatolia that accept Christianity are located.
