Description

Balikli Greek Church, located in Zeytinburnu in Istanbul, was built by the Byzantine Emperor Leo I. in the second half of the 5th century. The church is also known as Panagia Pege, Panagia Topkapi or Virgin Mary. The engraving depicts patients being put in the church for healing after bathing with water, which is considered sacred.
