Milet (Miletos-Miletus) Ancient City is located within the borders of Balat Village in Didim district of Aydin City. The history of the Miletus Ancient City began in 2000 BC. The city is an ancient port city at the mouth of the Latmos Bay, close to where the Menderes river flows into the sea in the Classical period. However, the port was filled with the materials carried by the Büyük Menderes river. Due to the reason, the city of Milet has remained 10 km inland from the sea in time. Although it was an important port city in every period, it lost its importance with the disappearance of its harbor.
