The Battle of Issus took place between the armies of the Persian King Darius III and the Macedonian King Alexander the Great in 333 BC, in the Plain of Issus (Isos), near the ancient city of Issos. Alexander the Great won the war. There is a debate among historians as to whether the river (Pinarus or Pinaros in English) in the place where the war took place was Delicay River or Payas River. In the engraving, the river in question is shown as the Payas River. In addition, the settlement at the foot of the mountain is Payas (Yakacik) district.
