Titus (Vespasianus) Tunnel is located in the ancient city of Seleucia Pieria in Samandağ district of Antakya. It is known as the first tunnel built in the world. It was built by the Roman emperor Vespasian and his son Emperor Titus between 69-81. It was built to prevent stones and sand dragged by the waters descending from the mountains from filling the city harbor. It is an artificial hydro-geomorphology project, which was realized in the early ages on the Eastern Mediterranean coast and can compete with the big projects realized with today's technology. The tunnel, built by drilling the rocks, is 6 meters wide and 950 meters long and consists of 220 meters of closed and 730 meters of open space. In addition, the engraving also depicted a Roman bridge with a single arch, which is still in use today.
