Description

The Asi (Orontes) River rises from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon and flows into the Mediterranean from Samandag District of Antakya Province. The total length of the Asi (Orontes) River is 386 km, and most of the river is within Syrian territory. Turkey's territory is 88 km in length. Asi (Orontes) River is the only river flowing in the opposite direction in its region and thus flowing from south to north. For this reason, it is called the river Asi (english meaning "rebel") by the people. The name of the river, which has been home to many mythological legends, is orontes in mythology.
