Description

Harbiye (Daphne-Defne) Waterfalls are located 7 km away from Antakya in the Harbiye district of Defne District. It consists of small, medium and large waterfalls at regular intervals from the top to the bottom, and it is approximately 1.5 km long from the main source down. There is Daphne (Defne) ancient city in Harbiye, where the waterfall is located. During the Roman period, Daphne, known for its waterfalls and being a summer resort, was famous for its many mansions, temples and entertainment places. The magnificence of the Olympics held in its stadium is legendary. However, severe earthquakes completely destroyed this city and no visible traces remain today. In addition, Defne has a mythological story. Daphne (Defne) meets Zeus' son Apollo, when Apollo falls in love with him, Daphne asks mother earth to hide herself and Daphne grows roots and turns into a laurel tree. Today, it is believed that the waterfalls that do not compromise their energy are the tears of Daphne (Defne).
