Mai Car Fort (popularly known as the Hungarian Fort) was built to the south of Anadolu Kavağı during the reign of Sultan Mustafa III for the defense of the Bosphorus. This fortress-fort, which took its name from the stream flowing next to it, was called "Ma-i Carî", meaning Stream Fort.
