Description

The walls of Antakya Castle were built in 300 B.C. during the reign of Seleucus I.Nicator, one of the generals of Alexander the Great. Antakya Castle has a city wall of 23,600 meters and 360 towers. Antakya castle after castle with walls in Istanbul is Turkey's second longest wall. It has 5 gates, namely the Damascus Gate in the south, the Aleppo Gate (Medina-St.Paul) in the north, the Iron Gate in the east, the Bridge Gate in the west and the Dog Gate in the northwest. A large part of it has been devastated as a result of many earthquakes and wars until today. Most of its appearance that survives today was made by the Byzantine Emperor Justianus in the 6th century.
