Description

The Ancient City of Troy is a historical city on the slopes of Kaz Mountain (Ida). It is located in the archaeological region today known as Hisarlık within the borders of Çanakkale province. Priam (Priamos) is the old king in the Trojan War in Greek mythology. Priam's treasure, consisting of gold and valuables in Priam's (Priamos) palace, was smuggled out of the country by the German merchant and amateur archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, who conducted the first Troy excavations in the 1870s. Troilus and Cressida (original English title: The Tragedy of Troilus and Cressida), one of William Shakespeare's historical plays and written in 1602, takes place in the last years of the Trojan War. The play follows the plot of Homer's Iliad and covers the events from Achilles' refusal to fight to the death of Hector. Hisarlık Hill, where the palace of Priam (Priamos) mentioned in this play is located, is depicted in the engraving.
