Semiramis (Van) Castle is 5 km away from Van and is on a steep rock. It was built by the Urartian King Sarduri between 840 BC and 825 BC. Semiramis (Van) Castle was the capital of Urartu State under the name of Tusba. According to legend, the Castle was built by the Assyrian Queen Semiramis to immortalize her love for King Ara. For this reason, the castle was named after the Assyrian Queen.
