Description

This engraving is based on paintings by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour (1671-1737). Kaptan Pasha (Kapudan Pasha-Kaptan-ı Derya) was the supreme commander of the Ottoman Navy and commander-in-chief of the navy, who was also tasked with governing important overseas provinces and islands.
