The meeting between Alexander the Great and Diogenes of Sinope took place in Corinth. Known for his deep interest in philosophy as a student of Aristotle, Alexander admired Diogenes's independent thinking and held him in high regard. In the early morning hours, Alexander appeared before Diogenes. As the sun illuminated the two great thinkers, Alexander excitedly asked if there was any favor he could do for him. Diogenes gave his famous answer, known throughout the world: "Get out of my light," or "Don't cast a shadow on me; I ask no other favor." At this, the soldiers began to chat and laugh among themselves. However, Alexander turned to them and declared, "If I were not Alexander the Great, I would wish to be Diogenes," demonstrating his respect and admiration for Diogenes. This encounter and dialogue scene is depicted in the engraving. This epic encounter holds a lesson from the depths of history that will remain relevant for centuries: Greatness lies not only in power and victory, but also in freedom of thought and humility. The engraving immortalizes this unforgettable moment forever.
