Hazaras, who make up about 25% of Afghanistan's population, live mostly in the Hazaristan region, which includes Bamyan. They also have communities in neighboring countries such as Pakistan and Iran. The Hazaras are an ethnic group of Turkic origin. The engraving depicts five people in the courtyard of a government palace (then known as the Zenana of Wali Sher Ali Khan) in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
