Description

Lady Godiva, the wife of the Duke of Mercia, who is said to have lived in England in the 11th century, opposes her husband's excessive taxes on the public and makes a deal with her husband. His wife also accepts this condition. According to the condition, Lady Godiva will travel the whole city on a horse naked, and in return the Duke will remove all taxes on the people. Thereupon, the Lady, covering her intimate places with her long hair, wanders the whole city on horseback and the people respond to Godiva's noble and popular movement with great nobility; Nobody looks at Godiva who is walking naked on his horse in the street, even that daily shopkeeper closes his shutters, nobody leaves his house. The Duke of Mercia keeps his promise to his wife and lowers the taxes. After this incident, Lady Godiva's courage, determination, purity, passion and beauty inspire many artists.
