George Lambert (1700-1765) was one of the founding figures of the English school of landscape painting and also a theatrical scene painter. He approached landscape painting as an independent artistic genre and exerted a profound influence on subsequent generations of English artists. The engraving, adopting a direct and unembellished mode of representation, presents the artist’s professional identity stripped of romanticized elements.
