Description

This engraving presents a detailed architectural plan of the Temple of Jupiter in Baalbek, one of the most monumental Roman sanctuaries of the ancient world. The colonnaded layout, large courtyard, and axial symmetry reflect typical features of imperial Roman temple complexes. Baalbek’s Jupiter Temple was part of a grand architectural ensemble that included the temples of Bacchus and Venus.
