The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, located in Pamplemousses near Port Louis, Mauritius, is a popular tourist attraction and the oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere. Famous for its long pond containing giant water lilies (Victoria amazonica), the garden was originally built in 1770 by Pierre Poivre (1719-1786) and covers an area of approximately 37 hectares.
