Description

This engraving depicts the circular Temple of Venus at the ancient city of Baalbek in Lebanon. Baalbek was a center of the cult of Jupiter Heliopolitanus during the Roman Imperial period. Monumental temples dedicated to Jupiter, Venus, and Mars were constructed there.
