This engraving depicts the first meeting between Isaac and Rebekah. It is based on verses 61-67 of Genesis, chapter 24, of the Old Testament. The engraving depicts Rebekah approaching Isaac, veiled, and Isaac coming to greet her. Isaac's taking Rebekah to his mother Sarah's tent and marrying her there signifies not only a personal union but also a link to God's promise to Abraham.
