Paradise Lost is an epic poem written by the English poet John Milton, consisting of 12 books and published in 1667. Paradise Lost describes the genesis section in the Torah. The engraving depicts the Devil's Journey to Heaven and the attempt to find Adam and Eve, in line 985 of the 4th book.
