Description

This engraving illustrates the logistical supply of warm clothing and construction of huts for British soldiers during the harsh winter of the Crimean War. Soldiers and supply animals are depicted transporting wood and supplies, while makeshift barracks and tents rise in the snowy background. William Simpson, who painted this engraving, was a painter and engraver sent to the war zones for The Illustrated London News during the Crimean War.
