This painting depicts a fierce fierce battle between Rogero, the son of a Christian knight, and Ferrau, a Moorish (Moroccan) knight, as described in Ludovico Ariosto's famous Italian epic poem Orlando Furioso. Rogero is depicted as an old man with a helmet and a cross on his chest, while Ferrau is an old man with a white beard. In the background is a red flag with a white cross, representing the crusaders. This painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1876.
